Many of his films turned to be flop movies and so he took a short break in the middle. His personal family problems diverted his attention away from the film industry. He is well trained at Silambattam, gymnastics, kalari, horse riding and skating. His debut movie in Telugu was Donga Donga in 1993, debut film in Malayalam was Perundachan and his first film in Hindi was Chor Chor. He acted in many other successful films including Jeans, Thiruda Thiruda and Chembaruthi. Prashanth entered film industry at the age of 17 through the Tamil film Vaigasi Poranthachu. He has good skills in dancing and knows the traditional dances namely Bharathanatyam, kuchipuri and Manipuri. He owns a jewelry mart complex at Panagal Park in Chennai.
He blamed his wife for hiding her former marriage in 1998 with Narayan Venu Prasad. He married Grahalakshmi on 1 st September 2005 and due to some misunderstandings they were divorced after three years. His ambition in life was to become a doctor and he was enlisted in two medical colleges after his schooling but since he was into the field of acting, his goals changed later on. He also has completed his course at the Trinity College of Music in London. After completing his schooling at Madras Christian College Higher Secondary School at Chetpet, he went on to complete his graduation in Computer Graphics and Multimedia.
